19-Year-Old Dies From Injuries After Crash Involving Allegedly Impaired Driver On Long Island

A teenager has died from his injuries following a crash involving an allegedly impaired driver on Long Island.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in Central Islip.

A 19-year-old Brentwood man was riding a bicycle westbound across Joshuas Path at Vanderbilt Avenue when he was struck by a 2012 Honda sedan traveling southbound on Joshuas Path, according to Suffolk County Police.

The teen was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for the treatment of serious injuries.

On Monday afternoon, Oct. 14, police announce the bicyclist, Eryk McPherson, died.

The driver of the Honda, David Alfaro, age 21, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. 

He was held overnight at the SCPD Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday, Oct. 14.
